CONCEPT
“Oink!” came about during a brainstorm of a dozen of other ideas that included “Awake” and “Poof and the Big Blue Sky”. It was an idea that was pushed back as I started pre-production work on “Awake”. However, after a long period of time of working on “Awake” I decided to come back to “Oink!” as a potential project for my first film under Eyesight Animation.

“Oink!” had the potential to be a distinctive, unique and a much more personal film. By incorporating shadow play elements with stop motion I knew I could create something that stood out from other films.
Oink Concept
STORY
Sprog is a young piglet who is lonely in his pen. One day he decides to escape his pen and venture inside the family home in search of someone to give him some love and attention.

What inspired Alex to make Oink?
VOICES & MUSIC
With an idea in place I just needed something that made the film flow without dialogue. The answer came about in a combination of voice work and music. The music was done by the fantastic Lachlan Murray, who bought a country-like vibe to the tone of the film. The voice work was a combination of hums, snoozes and mumbles by myself, Alex Murray, and my mum, Lorraine Dickens. Together they both made the film feel seamlessly alive.
MUM
Merrily singing to herself in the kitchen, the Mum of the house likes to keep herself busy. This accidentally makes Sprog feel left out and unheard by her, but at least Mum looks after everyone.
DAD
A father who sits in front of the television set, asleep and snoring. Sound familiar? He is just like any other Dad. Unfortunately for Sprog he isn’t lively enough to get any attention from him.
JOY
JOY
Joy loves animals, and especially pigs! Joy helps look after Sprog and nurtures him, and she also plays a role in bringing happiness to Sprog’s life.
SPROG
Sprog lives in a pen outside a family household. Sprog spends most of his time outside and alone. So Sprog decides to venture inside the house in search of love and attention.
OINK
Oink is the pig that Joy finds and brings to live with Sprog in his pen. Oink and Sprog make a lovely piggy couple. Together they can bring each other joy, love and a lot of happiness.
